బోడ కాకర కాయలు , అదే , ఆ కాకర కాయలు  - బెల్లం వేసి తీపి కూర చేసినా , వేపుడు చేసినా దేనికదే ప్రత్యేకం- వెంట్రుకలున్న కొప్పు ముడిచినా అందమే , ముడవకున్నా అందమే !!

మరి పొట్లకాయ పెరుగు పచ్చడి , లేత కొబ్బరి పచ్చడి , ముద్దపప్పు , గుత్తివంకాయ , దోసకాయ కారపు పచ్చడి, దోసకాయ పెరుగు పచ్చడి , అబ్బో దీనికి అంతులేదు , దీని తస్సాదియ్యా!

వానలు, ఆరుద్ర పురుగులు , గోదలకు పచ్చని గడ్డి మోపులు ,  కొత్త లేపాక్షి నోట్ - బుక్కుల్లో పడిన వర్షపు చుక్కల వల్ల ఉత్పన్నమైన సువాసన, కొత్త పుస్తకాలు, వాటికి వేసే గోధుమరంగు అట్టలు,  

సోమవారం శివయ్యకు అభిషేకాలు ,ఉపవాసాలు,. వీధి లో అభిషేకాలకోసం పరుగెత్తే బ్రాహ్మలు; కొందరు స్వయంగా చేసుకోవడం , మరికొందరు బ్రాహ్మలతో జరిపించుకోవడం. 

కర్మయోగి , మాతండ్రి పరమ శుచి గా మడితో శివాలయంలో అభిషేకాలు, బయట వాన , లోపల శివుడికి అభిషేక వర్షం,. అపుడపుడే ప్రదోషం కాలం ప్రవేశించి , ప్రకృతి మొత్తం రాగరంజితమై , నీల జీమూతాలు గర్జనలు సలుపుతుంటే , శివ పరివారంతో కలిసి మహదేవుడు ఆనంద నాట్యం చేస్తున్నట్టే ఉంది.

మంచి గంధం, నిత్యమల్లె పూలు, అభిషేక జలాలు స్వఛ్ఛమైన బావి నీరు , తళతళ లాడే రాగి , ఇత్తడి పాత్రలు, ఘమఘమలాడే అగరు ధూపాలు , నాన్న నడుస్తుంటే భక్తితో నమస్కరించి దూరంగా  జరిగే పౌరులు. సాయంత్రం ఏకాదశ రుద్రాభిషేకాల తర్వాత , ఇంటికి పిలిచిన బ్రాహ్మణ దంపతులతో సహపంక్తులు, షడ్రసోపేతమైన తెలుగు భోజనం , తెలంగాణ శాకంబరీ దేవి వరప్రసాదం- బోడకాకరకాయతో పాటుగా..

 ఒకవారం లేతకొబ్బరి పచ్చడి , మరొకవారం మరొక రోటి పచ్చడి. ఒకవారం పరమాన్నం మరొకవారం పుణుకులు ( బూరెలు). ఒకవారం గుత్తి వంకాయ, మరొక వారం దొండకాయ శనగపప్పు- బోడకాకరకాయ తప్పనిసరి!!

ఆషాడమాస విరహవేదనలతో అప్పడే అత్తగారిళ్ళకు చేరిన కొత్తకోడళ్ళు, వియ్యపు వారింటికి శ్రావణ పట్టీలు. కొత్త కోడళ్ళు, శ్రావణ మంగళవార, శ్రావణ శుక్రవార వ్రతాలు , పసుపు-బొట్లు ( పేరంటాలు) , పట్టు చీరల గరగరలు , నానబట్టిన శనగలు. పసుపు  పారాణి, ఆరిందల్లాగా పట్టు పరికీణులు చుట్టుకున్న పిల్ల పేరంటాలు , అమ్మలక్కల లోకాభిరామాయణాలు , కొత్త కోడళ్ళ పరిచయాలు , దండాలు, గుడి గద్దెలమీద మొగరాయుళ్ళ బాతాఖానీలు. 

వరలక్ష్మీ వ్రతాలు , ఇంట్లో కొబ్బరికాయలను శుభ్రం చేసి దానికి బాగా పసుపు రాసి , పసువుతోనే ముక్కను తయారించి , అతికించి  , పెన్సిల్ కళ్ళు గీసి కనుపాపలు దిద్ది , ఒక చిన్నబిందె మీద ఉంచి చీరను మురిపెంగా కట్టి మురిసిపోయే ముత్తైదువులు. అపర సరస్వతి ఎమ్మెస్ అమ్మ శ్రీరాగంలో  “శ్రీ వరలక్ష్మీ” , తర్వాత శ్రావ్యంగా లక్ష్మీ అష్టోత్తరం, ఆనక ఆఠానాలో “నీ ఇరంగాయనిల్ “ , అటుతర్వాత మధ్యమావతిలో “భాగ్యదా లక్ష్మీ బారమ్మా” టేప్-రికార్డులో సంగీత కచ్చేరీ చేయాల్సిందే.

భక్షాలు, బూరెలు, చింతపండు పులిహోర, పెరుగు పచ్చడి, సేమ్యా పాయసం, అవును .. బోడకాకరకాయ!! బ్రాహ్మణ భోజనాలు  , ఆనక సాయంత్రం పసుపు-బొట్లు , శనగలు , పట్టు చీరలు  , అబ్బో ఆ రెండో శుక్రవారం ధగధగలు , జిగజిగలు . 

బంకమట్టి తో తయారు చేసిన ఎద్దు బొమ్మలు , రైతు బొమ్మలను ఒక పీటమీద పెట్టి  ప్రకృతికి పూజ చేసి రైతుల, పశువుల పట్ల కృతజ్ఞత చూపించే పొలాల అమావాస్య పండుగ. 

భాద్రపద మాసంలో గణపతులకు ఇప్పణ్ణించే సన్నాహాలు;

బాలల గణపతి కి బాలలు చందాలడగడం, పెద్దల గణపతి కి పెద్దల చందాలు, రశీదు బుక్కులు పట్టుకోని వాడంతా కలియ తిరగడం..

శ్రావణ మాసం పరమశివ కారుణ్య మాసం

శ్రావణ మాసం నిత్య పండగల ధార్మిక మాసం

శ్రావణ మాసం కొత్తదంపతుల మధుమాసం

 రమణీయమైన ఆచారాలతో , నిత్య కళ్యాణం  లా వెలిగిపోతూ భారత జీవన ఔన్నత్యానికి నిలువెత్తు నిదర్శనం లా వర్షించే శ్రావణానికి సాటీ, పోటీ లేదు, అది అధిక శ్రావణమైనా, నిజ శ్రావణమైనా!!

Sarasvati nurtures us with the milk of music and literature which are her two breasts; Of these, music can be imbibed and enjoyed directly, while literature or Sahitya is nectar upon reflection.

Smt. Vishakha Hari’s concert was both “ApAta Madhuram” and “AlOcanamRtam”.  Smt Vishakha Hari is an emminent and exceptionally talented artist who has mastered the art of Hari Katha gaanam. Hari Katha, is a very rare form of art , which is very complex and demands many talents from the artist. Hari Katha exponent needs to be adept in sangitham and sahithyam. An artist to possess both these skills is rare. Rasikas are blessed with Smt. Vishakha Hari’s expertise in this rare form of art.

Smt. Vishkha Hari’s Carnatic Music expertise is par excellence. She is a born artist and Sangitham is in her DNA. She enthralls the audience with her exceptionally meliflous music. Her strong hold on Carnatic music is not only authentic but amazing.

Her expertise in shastra, puranas makes  her very special; One has to wonder if Smt. Vishakha Hari has descended from the heavens with Shri Narada’s lineage. As they say, the first and foremost Hari katha gayaka was Sage Narada. It is extremely hard for someone who masters Puranas, Shastras and Ithihasas at such an young age , that too with utmost perfection. Her unmistakable pronounciation, her command on Samskritam, her memory to remember the right quotes, from the vangmayam, at the right moment are unparallel. I would not be exaggerating, if I say she is the first of her kind snd there is no one like her in the world.

Her gracious presence, her attire and her magnanimous presence on the stage make her larger than life.  Her deep knowledge and understanding of Ramayana, Bharatha, Bhagavatham is visibly felt in every word she speaks. She is an ardent lover of “Sanathana Dharma” and her passion for Bharat(India) is evident in her every word. 

An innumerable number of times, I watched her youtube videos; needless to say I am spellbound everytime I hear her sing; Its gandharva ganam. I never had an opportunity to witness her live concert. When I knew she was going to perform in Houston, it was a dream cone true for me!! What a magnificent performance?!!! Words fail to describe the magic she and her team created. 

She chose to present Maha Bharatham in this concert. Her main theme was on the significance of “Dharmam” and “Hari Namam”. She started the concert with “Ayuram nama” kriti. She took audience into a trans with her anazing articulation skills. The rasikas , I am sure, were drowned in the blissful  world of ”Bhakthi” and ”Jnana” with the aid of her gandharva gaanam.

“Narayana ninna namada” in Shudha Dhanyasi was elaborate and exquisite!! The presentation brought up an immense feeling if Bhakthi for Narayana and evoked strong sense of emotions; A strong sense that, “thy name will save me” was felt by the audience. The exceptional skills of both Mridangam and Violin artistes have elevated the concert to a highest level.

As a pleasant surprise , “Endaro Mahanubhavulu” in meliflous Sri ragam was rendered. Tears started filling up my eyes as I was in a deep sense of Bhakthi for Shri Krishna as she explained how Krishna , the Lord of the Lord, served Sages and  Rishis in Rajasuya yagam. I had experienced a ”trans like” situation as I was experiencing real Bliss.

The concert was started with and ended with ”Ayiram Nama”, sticking to the main concept ”Significance of Dharma and Nama” 

It was a treat for Rasikas, An emotional journey for Bhakthas , a deep contemplation for lovers of Literatue/Sahithyam for intellectuals ; It was an overall ”Gandharva Gana Sabha” par excellence.  This experience of mine was like never before and never after - “न भूतों न भविषयाती।।”

I am sure the entire sabha was felt the same way!! Kudos to BKM for organizing such a marvelous event in Houston!!

”అడి” గొట్టుడు

మా ఊళ్లే, పల్లెల పొంటి జీపులు, ఆటోలు ఆ ఊర్నుంచేల్లి ఈ ఊరుకు ఒకటే నడుస్తుండే!! జయితాల (జగిత్యాల)నుంచి పూడూరు, మల్ల పూడూరు నుంచి జయితాల(జగిత్యాల) అట్నుంచి ఇటూ ఇట్నుంచి అటూ ఒక్కటే తిరుగుడు - దీన్ని ”అడి” గొట్టుడు అంటుంటుమి!! 

ఇప్పుడు కొండా సురేఖ గూడ ”అడి” గొడ్తున్నట్టుంది .మొదాలు ”స్కామ్ గ్రెస్సుల” ఎలుగవెట్టింది తర్వాత వైస్సార్ పార్టీ అన్నది ( ”ఆయన వచ్ఛే”” పార్టీ) ఇగ తర్వాత జగనన్న దగ్గర పప్పులుడకకపోతే గులాబీ జెండా వట్టింది-గాపార్టీ ల ”మంచి మంచోళ్ళే మట్టాన వొంగా” ఇగ గీమే ఆటలేం సాగుతలే!!! ఇగ సురేకవ్వ ”అడి” గొడ్తాంది - మల్ల ”స్కామ్ గ్రెస్సు” ల కు జంప్ జిలాని అయితున్నట్టు గోడ్తుంది!! అక్క కు పదవి, టిక్కెట్టు గివ్వే గావాలె. తనకు, మొగడికి, బిడ్డకు అందరికి టిక్కెట్లు గావాల్నట - ఇక్కడ ఒక్కనికే దిక్కు లేదంటే, ఈళ్ళకు ఇంట్ల అందరికీ టిక్కెట్లు గావాల్నట.. 

అక్క, బావ - ఇద్దరు రాజకీయ దిగజారుడు తనానికి మచ్చుతునకలు!! ఎవడు పదవి ఇస్తే అక్కడికే వోతారు.. ఇగ ఇప్పుడు బిడ్డ గూడా జేరింది!!

ఉద్యోగం పురుష లక్షణం , వర్క్ ఈజ్ వర్షిప్ ఈ ఉవాచలన్నిటి పుణ్యమా అని కార్పొరేటు బానిసలం ఎప్పుడయ్యామో గుర్తే లేదు 

“వర్కులైఫు బాలన్స్ “అనే ఎండమావి వెనుక పరుగెడుతూనే ఉన్నాము

“మిడ్ లైఫు క్రైసిస్” తరుముతుంటే జవాబు లేక ఉక్కిరి బిక్కిరి అవుతున్నాము

తెల్లోడి గులాములై మనతాతలు బతికారు మరి వారికి వేరే అవకాశం లేదు. తెల్లోడికి తాఖీదని మనకై మనమే గులాములయినాము

కడుపు కట్టి సంపాయించి కడుపునిండా తిన్న రోజు కనుచూపు మేరలో లేదు. గడ్డి కొంచెం గాదం కొంచెం తినలేక చస్తున్నాం

జరిగిన గతమంతా కలగా తోస్తుంటే రాబోయే భవిత ఎంత గుదిబండ గ తోస్తుంటే, ఔరా !! మన అమ్మ నాన్నలు ఎలా పెంచారని అనిపిస్తుంది

భ్రమలన్నీ తొలగాక 

రంగుల స్వప్నం చెదిరాకా 

తెలిసింది అసలు స్వప్నమే లేదని 

కలే రావాలంటే .. అర్థమైంది నిద్దరోవాలని 

స్వప్నం నిజమవ్వాలంటే 

కష్ఠించాలని తెలుసు .. 

కానీ నిప్పు లాంటి ఆశయం .. 

నీలో చివరి అఖరివరకు మండాలని మరిచా !

Raso vai saha (रसो वै सः)

Music concert organized by HYMA (Houston Youth Music Association) on the Janmashtami day left rasikas with a very long lasting, and profound experience. It was a musical extravaganza.

Dr.Pantula Rama, well-known Carnatic musician enthralled music lovers at Ashtalakshmi temple in Houston on the auspicious Janmashtami day.  The team of musicians will speak for its top standards with Vidwan MSN Murthy on Violin and Vidwan Kotipally Ramesh on Mridangam. The entire group of musicians is the "top" grade artists in All India Radio (AIR). 

The concert started with mellifluous Mohanam with "Rakta Ganapatim" invoking the Lord Ganapathi.  It did not take much time to understand that it is going to be a feast for Rasikas. 

Dr. Rama's voice is enchanting, and she has a very unique "Gambhiryam." Every note, either simple or complex, is distinctly heard in her voice. If all the notes imagined being "pearls," one can collect each pearl without missing a single note; her rendering of gamakas is exquisite and out of the world. In Telugu, there is a popular saying "Mutyala Saralu (Mutyalu = Pearls)," Dr.Rama's notes are nothing less than "Mutyala Saralu."

Dr. Rama then presented "Cheta Shree Balakrishnam" in Dwijavanti. This was another master class. She kept on the enthralling audience with her command over her voice, her confidence, and her grace. The "Gambhiryam" was exuberant.

Then it was "Sakala Graha Bala neeve sarasijaksha" in Athana by Purandara Dasa. Followed by Athana was a rare kriti in Natakapriya "Mara Janaki Ashraye."

By this time the stage is being set for something very special. Something that you rarely witness something you see once in a lifetime. Dr.Rama then renders an elaborate Kalyani - "Ye thavuna ra Nilakada neeku"  by Saint Thyagaraja.

Now is the time for the grand finale  - Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi. I am afraid if the words can even describe the way "Ananda  BhaiRavi" was presented. The Kriti rendered was "Nanda Bala Navaneeta chora."  It was the culmination of pure master class, bliss, and joy. I rarely witness such an extraordinary presentation at a music concert. The pacing of the music, strategic pauses for providing better grasp, the grace, Artist's eye contact with the audience as well as with the accompanying artists were all perfect. It was an exemplary display of visualization skills ("Kalpana chaturyam") of Ananda Bhairavi. Dr.Rama is a rare musician with such an exemplary "Kalpana shakti." She is extremely innovative yet very true to the "Karnatic" tradition.  Her authoritative hold on the imagination is at it's best. One of the stunning attitudes about Dr.Rama is her magnificent rendering of gamakas, sometimes extremely fast-paced "Chitta-Swaras" (musician's stronghold).  At times the "Chitta-Swaras" that were being delivered are almost seemed impossible coming from a vocalist; such fast-paced Swaras are only possible on an instrument like a violin or a veena.  Being Janmashtami, it was an apt tribute to Lord Krishna in a true music sense. 

When she was being introduced, many things were mentioned about her "Kalpana"(Visualization), and she delivered on every promise. 

Followed by the Ananda Bharavi, it was "Navaneeta Chora Devaki Vasudeva Nandana" in shenjuruTTi.

The concert ended with a rendition of Sindhubhairavi "Tamboori Meetidava-bhavabhdhi Daatidava" by Purandaradasa.

It is hard to imagine that one can listen to such a high-quality Carnatic concert in a foreign land.  It was my "Sowbhagyam"(Great Fortune) rather than anything else to witness this concert.

Kudos to HYMA for the job is well done!!

నిజమే !! బి.జె.పి ఎన్నో వాగ్దానాలు మరచింది ...

నిజమే !! బి.జె.పి ఎన్నో వాగ్దానాలు మరచింది ...కొన్ని పరిస్థితులు ప్రజలకు అసౌకర్యం కలిగిస్తున్నాయి. పెట్రోల్ , డీజిల్ ధరల పెరుగుదల ప్రజల నడ్డి విరగదీస్తున్నాయి. కానీ పెట్రోలు, డీజిలు, ధరలు అంతర్జాతీయంగా ప్రభావితం అవుతాయి...దేశీయంగా వీరి ధరలు వాదులు చెయ్యడానికి ఉన్న పరిమిత మార్గాల్లో సబ్సిడీ ఒక్కటే మార్గం. ఇంకా ఎన్ని సబ్సిడీలు? సబ్సిడీలన్నీ చివరకు పరకాల మీదనే భారం పెంచవా? సబ్సిడీలు ఇచ్చుకుంటూ పొతే, ఫిస్కల్ డెఫిసిట్ పరిస్థితి ఏంటి? 

కష్టమైనా స్ట్రాటజిక్ నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకోక పొతే ఎలా ? జి.ఎస్.టి అమలు చేయకపోతే ఇంకా ఏమైనా ప్రత్యామ్నాయం ఉండ? స్వతంత్రం  వచ్చి 70 ఏళ్ళైనా  ఇంకా ౩౦ రకాల ట్యాక్సులు అవసరమా? ఇంకా ఎన్ని రోజులు మీనా మేషాలు లెక్క పెడతారు? పర్ఫెక్టు జి.ఎస్ టి బిల్లు కోసం కాంగ్రెస్ పదేళ్లు కాలయాపన చేసింది - there is nothing called perfect . we just need to move on . ఒక్కసారి అమలు చేసాక దాన్లో లోపాలు సవరించుకోవచ్చు . అసలు అమలు చెయ్యక పొతే????!!!!

మన మిలిటరీ ఆధునీకీకరణ ఎంతో ముఖ్యమైన విషయం - కుంభకోణాల భయంతో కాంగ్రెస్ సర్కారు నిర్లిప్తంగా ఉండిపోయింది. సరియైన ఆయుధాలు లేవు, యుద్ధం వస్తే ఒక నెల రోజులకు సరిపోయేంత అమ్యునేషన్ కూడా లేదు. సైనికులకు  రక్షణ కవచాలు లేవు. ఇది ఎంత భయంకర పరిస్థితి . మోడీ సర్కారు ఈ విషయాల మీద సత్వర నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకోవడం తప్పితే ప్రత్యామ్నాయం ఏమైనా వుందా??!!

“డీ- మోనెటైజేషను” ఒక తప్పు నిర్ణయము అనుకుందాం - కాని, ఎంతో సాహసోపేతంగా అమలైతే  చేసారు కదా? అది ఆత్మహత్యా సదృశమైన నిర్ణయమే కదా ? దేశ రక్షణ కోసమనే కదా? కిచిడి ప్రభుత్వాలు ఇలాంటి నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకోగలవా? దేశం కోసం ఎంతటి కఠినమైన నిర్ణయమైనా తీసుకోగలమనే చిత్తశుద్ధి ప్రదర్శించారు కదా? 

ఈవీఎం , ఈవీఎం అని పితూరీలు చెప్పే ప్రతి పక్షాలు గుజరాతులో బి.జె.పి చావు తప్పి కన్ను లొట్ట పోయినప్పుడు ఎందుకు మాట్లాడలేదు? అప్పుడు ఈవీఎం మంచిదైపోయిందా? ఈవీఎం ల ద్వారా బి.జె.పి గెలిచేట్టయితే, కర్ణాటక లో , బీహార్ లో ఎందుకు ఓడిపోయింది?గెలుపు కోసం ఎంతటి దారుణానికైనా బి.జె.పి ఒడిగడుతుందనే ప్రతిపక్షాల మాటనిజమే అయితే, గుజరాతు రాజ్య సభ ఎలెక్షన్ లో అహ్మద్ పటేల్ ఎలా గెలిచాడు? అతన్ని  బి.జె.పి

ఎలా గెలవనిచ్చింది ?ఈవీఎం లే బి.జె.పి  నిజంగా విజయాలకు  కారణం అయితే, అది 8 ఉప ఎన్నికలు ఎలా ఓడిపోయింది?
